>The Importance of Structured Water
A wide variety of scientists have shown that structured water possesses a modified molecular cluster structure that promotes unique (cellular) hydration capabilities including the hydration of ions, macromolecules and biological tissues. For example, see L. Liu: "Characterization of a cage form of the water hexamer". Nature 381:501-503(1996).
This "structure" to water is a PHYSICAL characteristic, distinctly different from water's more common or well-known chemical features.
In simple terms, structured water consists of a collection or "cluster" of individual water molecules, arranged in a "chain" as closed "rings" or "cages" or simply long "strings" of water molecules, having as few as a half dozen or as many as several thousand water molecules as "links" or components in the rings or chains.
Structured water can be produced from bulk(unorganized structure) water through the use of various electromagnetic fields in the radio frequency(RF), microwave and far infrared bands(FIR) as well as through the process of electrolysis of highly pure water titrated with a sodium chloride(saline) solution.
As noted in a preceding section, the ability to deal with excess free radicals in the body is an primary objective of virtually all proponents of structured water. Free radicals are present in our environment, foods as well as produced as cytotoxins by all mammalian cells.
Excess free radicals can lead to cellular degeneration and cell death. Although "normal" cell deaths occur by the millions daily in the human body, excessive cell death rates accelerates the aging process as well as promulgates various bodily diseases.
By combining selective features of electrolysis and electromagnetic fields(EMF), various investigators have been able to produce fairly stable(long lived) and effective mechanisms for delivering various types of anti-oxidants to cells.
To date, insufficient in-vivo testing has been conducted to fully demonstrate the efficacy of these techniques to the satisfaction of the FDA. Such tests are expensive and require sophistication in instrumentation which are available only in some of the better-equipped neuro-biological laboratories around the world.
Nonetheless, adequate information is available to indicate that benefits to cellular activities do accrue from use of waters structured in these manners.
A useful experiment which would provide significant data and perhaps provide both peer and FDA approval for such technologies could be structured around the use of structured water in central nervous system(CNS) experiments, in mice or rats, for example.
It is recognized throughout most of the neuro-biological community that the CNS provides an ideal test bed for such experiments. Micro-bubbles, created by a careful combination of EMF and electrolysis, can be made to act as a "cage", carrying powerful free radical scavengers such as atomic hydrogen to various parts of the CNS. (Nano-sized, spherical silicates, as shown in other portions of this discussion, can produce similar structuring characteristics).
Inside the brain and/or CNS, naturally occurring super oxide(SO) and nitric oxide(NO) combine in various ratios. When this ratio is precisely 1:1, the highly toxic compound peroxynitrite(POX) is formed by reaction of NO with super oxide dismutase(SOD). It is known that POX and its metabolites have numerous cytotoxic effects, including the nitration of proteins, alteration of neurofilaments and attack on cell membranes, resulting in apoptotic or necrotic cell death.
Any structured water molecule that can be safely delivered to cells to alter the NO:SO ratio(from 1:1) or in essence neutralize POX should reduce cellular toxicity. Experiments to confirm this hypothesis have yet to be conducted. Such experiments by the structured water community are considered essential for any broad-based credibility to be established within the orthodox and alternative medical communities, not to mention the FDA.
If such tests have been conducted within the structured water community, their results have yet to be made public.
What does all this mean?
First, it means that the water in one's body, called "biowater", is intimately involved in cell physiology; not just in the movement of nutrients and the removal of toxins and waste. Water plays an active role in cellular communications and thus literally thousands of metabolic functions.
It also means that several mechanisms exist for creating water which possesses specific "structures" which are not only capable of penetrating cellular membranes but also have the ability to carry various nutrients or powerful anti-oxidants into various cellular areas such as the CNS to hopefully reduce the effects of free-radical damage to cells, the DNA, enzymatic functions and so forth.
In the discussion to follow, we discuss two different mechanisms which have been developed for accomplishing these objectives. These two mechanisms were developed respectively by Dr. Lee Lorenzen and Dr. Patrick Flanagan.
In January of 1998, biochemist Dr. Lee Lorenzen was awarded a U.S. Patent for his process in creating Clustered Water Solutions. His 14 step process was the result of some 15 years of diligent efforts and involves lasers, ceramics, magnetic resonance technology and precise temperature control to produce and stabilize these water clusters in such a way that they can be made available for people to consume on a daily basis. >Grander Water
After reviewing the various materials available on the Grander Water Technology, we have decided that it did not merit in-depth discussion in this section for several reasons.
- We decided that insufficient technical information was available to adequately describe Grander's process. It would appear he uses some type of magnetic hybrid to re-orient some facet of water polarity and perhaps reduce surface tension, a process which one can do with exposure to selected EM fields. However, without technical descriptions of such phenomena, we are at a loss to recommend such a technique and feel that it does not represent a unique and significantly different process than most others;
- References in the available literature claim that certain "negatively polarized" aspects of water, contaminants and other materials can be "re-oriented" by exposure to the Grander device. No scientific data is presented to identify specifics of these polarization effects and to demonstrate that such phenomena(polarity reversal) are indeed achieved;
- The literature available on Grander's process intimates that effects of "planetary" and "gravitational" magnetics are included in the devices. Such discussion usually falls under "subtle energy" discussions and as identified in other portions of this section on structured water, tend to be categorized as psychic or paranormal phenomena rather than mechanisms which can be subjected to known scientific instrumentation and established testing protocols.
- The influence of "far-field" magnetic field effects such as those claimed to be affected by the Grander devices are miniscule with respect to the "near-field" effects of thousands of other EM devices. To expect that the far-field effects of inter-planetary "forces" are restored by the Grander device in the presence of substantially larger near-field effects stretches the credibility of the entire process. Additionally(and possibly for this very reason), no test data is presented which verifies these claims are met either with in-vivo or in-vitro testing.
